Why the Saints winning the Super Bowl is a big deal for most New Orleanians:

The Saints Curse:
Their first 20 seasons = 20 consecutive losing seasons.
THEN they finally make the playoffs ... they lose FOUR times.
THEN 33 years into the Saints franchise, in 2000, they (barely) won a playoff game.

Forget all the stuff about Katrina ... regardless of all that, because the Saints franchise has been so bad for so long, the city most likely appreciates this victory more than any other city ever has or will.

The Saints were definitely good this year but they were lucky. I've never watched a game with so many close calls as the Saints-Vikings game two weeks ago. And this game came down to a hand-full of gutsy calls and lucky plays— an unsuccessful fourth-and-goal-from-the-one play, a reviewed two-point conversion, a successful random, completely-unexpected third-quarter on-sides kick, and an extremely timely interception and run-back — when it looked as though New-Orleans-native Peyton Manning was in the zone efficiently marching towards tying the game, all of a sudden, it was a 14-point game - what had looked like a crushingly disappointing drive turned into almost-certain victory for the Saints within seconds.

I've never sat down to watch a football game, but even I watched this one and was quite impressed by the saints. I was amused when they started shooting off fireworks here when they won ;P

The first NFL game I remember as a kid was the 1967 NFC championship "Ice Bowl". After that, for almost 45 years I was a die hard Cowboy fan. I NEVER missed a game. I had dual appreciation for both the 'boys and the falcons, up to last Oct., when I flew to Dallas and watched a bunch of thugs in white and silver uniforms low-class their way to victory at JerryWorld™. I began to see Cowboy fans as 'infected with the STARS', including my son, whom I indoctrinated to the Cowboy Cult from infancy.

I have been a season ticket holder in the NFL for the past 8 seasons. I have missed exactly one game during that time (the last Saint's visit to Atlanta).

And I never EVER miss a Super Bowl.

Obviously, I am a big fan of the NFL. But I am a bigger fan of equality and fairness. I didn't watch one second of that game. These images were the first I'd seen of any part of 'that game'.

Serious congrat's to the Saint's but Fuck CBS and their hypocritical choices of which commercials to allow and which to deny. I am sick of Jesus Freaks and their "pro life" agenda. And fuck CBS. I'm boycotting them forever.

This was an interesting and informative comment, and I agree with you 90%. (The other 10% is that I've never really had a favorite NFL team and I don't go to games)

Have you seen or heard anything about the ad? (Although I watched the game, I totally missed the ad.)

By all accounts, it's the most luke-warm, unclear ad ever.
Pam: I call him my miracle baby. He almost didn't make it into this world. I can remember so many times when I almost lost him. It was so hard. Well he's all grown up now, and I still worry about his health. You know, with all our family's been through, you have to be tough...

Tim tackles his Mom.

Pam: Timmy! I'm trying to tell our story here.

Tim: Sorry about that, Mom... You still worry about me, Mom?

Pam: Well, yeah, you're not nearly as tough as I am.
Far from being a pro-life ad, it was an ad about how fragile Tim Tebow's mom thinks he is, and not much else.

I actually have no problem with that ad. What I did have a problem with is them turning down NORML, and that gay dating site as 'controversial' when 51% of the country is pro-choice.

Just sayin'...
